Effect of Casting Thickness on the Solidification Characteristics and Microstructural Parameters of Near-Eutectic Al-Si Alloy Produced by Ablation Casting Process

The role of ablation casting process in the case different thicknesses a sloping pattern near-eutectic Al-Si alloy was evaluated. time durations for water spray were selected as 100 and 150 s after pouring melts; addition, related to first sample (AB1) second (AB2), respectively. To this end, 8 thermocouples located (4 on surface 4 at bottom). results indicated that cooling rates 6.9–43.6 times AB1 4.8–22.8 AB2, compared sand (SC). Moreover, rate bottom thermocouple 1.5–21.9 1.3–19.9 SC. Eutectic silicon with size about 1 µm obtained through AB process, secondary dendrite arm spacing reduced 90% SC, especially ablated center. According results, difference duration did not have much effect microstructure. It found achieve completely fine microstructure thickness greater than 70 mm (the critical thickness), should be done several directions.
